About the Course

The convenience store industry is a favorite target of cybercriminals. Indeed, the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) says data breaches and payment security is the number one major issue affecting the industry. Given such high stakes, awareness of data security concerns and best practices is critical.

In Part 1 of this course, we examine:

  • The extent of the data security problem
  • Why convenience and fuel retail stores are favorite targets
  • What the most common data security liabilities are
  • Where the fault lies for data security vulnerabilities
  • What cybercriminals are typically seeking and obtaining in data security attacks
  • How aware industry execs and store managers are of their information security preparedness

In Part 2 of the course, we look at:

  • The data security problem getting worse
  • Data security practices that most convenience stores are probably doing
  • Data security practices that many stores aren’t doing but should be
  • Data breach reactions that should happen at the corporate level
  • Data breach reactions that should happen at the individual store level
  • Best practices for creating a secure environment for corporate and customer data
